たぶん商標的な何かが理由だと思うので、オフィシャルには toot と言った方がよい。
@okapies Mastodon 3.xまで投稿ボタンが「Toot」だったのはYouTuberによる援助の見返りだったのですがMastodon 4からは「Publish」に戻っています。
