If you've never seen the #planet #Mercury and you have a clear view toward the west, tonight's your night (24th June 2025). Look west-northwest about 40 minutes after sunset and see three bright objects forming a line parallel to the horizon. The brightest object, on the left, is Mercury. The other two objects are the Pollux and #astor, the brightest stars in the #constellation #Gemini.

Astronomers may have found evidence of still-forming planets hidden somewhere in this close-up of the star RIK 113, taken with our Veery Large Telescope in #Chile
This and previous data taken with the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array suggest that the disc around the star may be shaped by hidden planets.
The data show the presence of gaps and spiral features, which may have been caused by forming planets.

Possibly the weirdest planet yet discovered?
Newfound world 2M1510 (AB) b appears to orbit not one but two stars...and they are actually failed stars, known as brown dwarfs...and the planet orbits sideways, in a unique up-and-down polar orbit.

The same side of the Moon always faces Earth, but not in exactly the same way. Due to its tilted axis and elliptical orbit, we see about 59% of its surface over time. This simulation compresses a year into 60 seconds, making the Moon's apparent wobble, called libration, clearly visible.

FWIW this was one of the trickier pieces. The internal hardware fit was really tight, and I had to study up on optics - in particular light path physics to squeeze it all in. Many builds with biconvex and biconcave lenses of different cuts, different configurations, before it had the feel of gazing upon a real starscape. At that short distance, only a pricey sub 50mm AMOLED display would yield near no artifacts from ray angles as they came through the first lens. Learned a bunch
