The old web was decentralized:
- Newsgroups
- Personal Websites
- Bulletin board
- Email as a service, not a platform
- Internet relay chat (IRC)
- Early blogs
Then corporations arrived with money and lock-in, turning the internet into centralized ad farms (Meta, X, TikTok). Users became consumers, trapped in algorithms, tracking, and enshittification. Revenue more important than people.
The Fediverse is a way back: no ads, no algorithms, no dark patterns. People first. A web worth reclaiming. And open source is the engine of this transformation.
Take back the web. Decentralize again Bring people to the Fediverse, promote open source and build federated services.
Thinking about building “#Fedify Studio” (tentative name)—a web-based #ActivityPub debugging & development toolkit, like a supercharged version of ActivityPub.Academy and fedify inbox
command. Imagine having a proper UI for testing activities, inspecting actors, debugging federation issues… Would this be useful for other ActivityPub developers out there?
I'm a computer programmer with a Fediverse account, and I am this many years old.
Please consider boosting for a more representative sample.
@timbl you said “All we need is to regulate the addictive algorithms, the ones that guide people into rabbit holes.” But to check compliance with regulations, the source code of algorithms used by social media should be released, at least to the regulating authority. Companies can avoid regulation and accountability hiding behind intellectual property rights, trademarks and patents. Educating people to the freedom and safety of #fediverse is an alternative to regulate companies.

@TechCrunch #Mastodon has had #bookmarks for years already - the real #fediverse
I’ve set my Fediverse profile to manually approve followers, keeping my circle minimal and intentional. No blind followers, no fake friends. I value truth, accuracy, and wellness — and encourage others to do the same.
This is my new Mastodon server. Yeah, another moment, another time, I reset my VPS and then reinstalled this instance again. I enjoyed discovering how to configure my VPS very perfectly without flaws, without results that are due to low-quality decisions, mistakes, and unorganized or unplanned choices.
But, my presence in the Fediverse isn't new. It has been traced back to around the 2020s (I can't remember the exact date) when, at that time, Vivaldi Browser offered me the opportunity to create a new browser sync personal account, and I also started using their Mastodon instance called "Vivaldi Social."
In Malaysia, there were many news mentions of the Fediverse and Mastodon because, at that time, Elon Musk was buying a platform called Twitter before he rebranded it as X, which caused people online to be upset that their favorite platform could be easily bought by a so-called billionaire.
Another giant introduction
We're excited to share an update on #Fedify's development! While we're actively working on Fedify 1.9 in the main
branch, we've also begun preparations for Fedify 2.0 in the next
branch.
Before you get too excited about revolutionary new features, we want to set clear expectations: Fedify 2.0 will primarily focus on cleaning up technical debt that we couldn't address due to backward compatibility constraints. This means removing deprecated APIs and making breaking changes that will ultimately result in a cleaner, more maintainable codebase. Think of it as a major housekeeping release—necessary work that will make Fedify better in the long run.
Some of the planned improvements include adding readonly
modifiers throughout our types and interfaces to better enforce our immutability-by-default principle, implementing our own RFC 6570 URI Template library for symmetric expansion and pattern matching, and various CLI tool migrations to our new Optique framework for better cross-runtime support. While the majority of changes will be about refinement rather than revolution, these updates will strengthen Fedify's foundation and improve interoperability across the #fediverse. You can track all planned changes in detail by checking out the Fedify 2.0 milestone on our GitHub repository.
