daltuxYou do not even really need to rely on any third party to manage your projects because <a href="https://snac.daltux.net?t=codeberg" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Codeberg</a>'s :git: project management system, <a href="https://snac.daltux.net?t=forgejo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#Forgejo</a>, is <a href="https://snac.daltux.net?t=freesoftware" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#FreeSoftware</a> (GPLv3+) which grants you four <a href="https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/free-sw.html#four-freedoms" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">essential freedoms</a>, one of them meaning you can host it yourself.<br><br>That said, all software should respect the users freedoms, so it's good that Codeberg itself keeps focusing its resources on projects that respect this matter.<br><br>CC: @namelessvoice@mastodon.gamedev.place <span class="h-card"><a href="https://moonserver.yorha.nexus/users/9ngbk6emqs6sxcgk" class="u-url mention" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">@hannah@moonserver.yorha.nexus</a></span><br>
Forgejo<p>The <a href="https://floss.social/tags/Forgejo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Forgejo</span></a> monthly report was published ✨</p><p>The Forgejo v12 release was on time. The runner saw significant progress, and the release tooling was improved. Discussions emerged regarding AI contributions, contributor attributions in the documentation, and the future of communication. Codeberg<p>Codeberg now has an experimental way to report abuse to admins. It's WIP in <a href="https://social.anoxinon.de/tags/Forgejo" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Forgejo</span></a> and is going to be released in version 13 in some months. However, we deployed it on Codeberg to get some insights on how it works. Attention server admins! Yesterday I've read a post by @simon_brooke how nasty AI scraper bots are attacking his self-hosted @forgejo instance. Soon after I'm seeing unusual, periodic traffic spikes on mine and again - dominated by OpenAI, but some other freeloaders too:

20.171.207.41 GPTBot/1.2
85.208.96.211 SemrushBot/7~bl
54.36.148.64 AhrefsBot/7.0
114.119.139.53 PetalBot

With GPTBot and SemrushBot attacking hardest :blobcatscared:

They've been hammering my little server periodically today as well, slowing down my instance dramatically as if I was experiencing malicious DDoS attack :blobcatfearful: Well, in a sense it is one :blobcatnotlikethis:

Watch out - it seems corporate AI techbros learned to scrape :forgejo: content and starts doing it on a massive scale :blobcatoutage: Remember when @Codeberg was (and repeatedly is) hit?

For now blocked IP ranges and User-Agent combinations, not sure for how long that will be enough :blobcatumm:

Please boost for visibility and be prepared!

The #Forgejo monthly update was published ✨

Ongoing issues with the Matrix chat room were addressed by recreating the room. Users are encouraged to join the new room, as the old room is deprecated. Security updates have been released for versions v11 and v7. Progress continues on the moderation feature funded by @nlnet. Work on federated user activity continues, including the ability to follow Forgejo users from GoToSocial.
