Weekly GNU-like #MobileLinux Update (14/2025): Wallpapered Lockscreens
@hongminhee At the moment, I think, #Envelope is the only #email client that is ported to #GTK4 and #llibadwaita.
However, it seems that:
* @geary is quite close to a release: https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/geary/-/issues/1212
* #ElementaryMail https://github.com/elementary/mail/pull/1003 is working on it.
Unfortunately, I don't see progress in @EvolutionGnome, #Claws or #Balsa
Write your own Wayland Desktop!
The "Astal" framework, which is written in Vala, makes it super-simple! (you can use it with any gobject-introspection language though)

Here a WIP project from our community. So far a custom status bar, quick settings, MPRIS, etc. Together with the Hyprland window manager. Built with #GTK4, #Blueprint, #Libadwaita and of course #Vala!

For those running #postmarketos edge on a device with working camera - the number of which is raising fast enough to make me lose track - and you want to play around with the great new #gnomecamera / #gnomesnapshot #gnome47 release: you'll need to install gst-plugins-rs manually until some build issues are fixed.
The release features *heavily* improved rendering performance, mainly thanks to improvements in #gtk4 and the #gstreamer gtk4paintablesink (also for apps using the aperture library)
I upgraded #GNOME #Calls to #gtk4 + #libadwaita for fun. It's now released in v47.0! Should be available soon in your #LinuxMobile distribution of choice
Massive thanks to @devrtz, @agx, @brainblasted, and Maximiliano for putting up with my beginner-level GTK skills!
Part three of the file chooser implementation was merged!
I edited my article to include a new section on integration; a counter-response to @osnews / @thomholwerda's response:

On the development blog, Matthias Clasen sums up the improvements for text rendering introduced by the new unified GPU renderer available in GTK 4.14:

Hello world!
We're a group dedicated to creating beautiful apps for your #mobilelinux devices. All our apps are built with #gtk4 and #libadwaita, and are #adaptive for both desktop and mobile #linux devices!
On this account we will post announcements for new releases and new features of our apps, which you can find over at https://gitlab.com/schmiddi-on-mobile and https://github.com/Tubefeeder.
This account is run by @julianfairfax, on behalf of Schmiddi and the Schmiddi on Mobile group.
Are you interested in working on GNOME, writing Rust apps, or working with Fonts? If so, you may be interested in taking a look at https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gnome-font-viewer/-/merge_requests/49 :)
This port may take a while, and I greatly appreciate any help available. I've laid out a list of tasks to be done before merging, and if anyone wants to take something on let me know and we can work together.
If you want to help with the effort, please join #fonts:gnome.org on Matrix :) (https://matrix.to/#/#fonts:gnome.org)
(boosts appreciated)
Matthias Clasen has written a post on the GTK blog about recent changes in the accessibility implementation of the toolkit, as well as improvements in the tooling planned for the 4.12 release: https://blog.gtk.org/2023/06/21/evolving-accessibility/
it's pretty much exactly what it says, a simple app that plays a sine wave tone at a chosen frequency (or a specific note), which could be useful if you need a reference to help with tuning an instrument, or for calibrating system-wide equalizers for example
it's written in #rust using #gtk4, #relm4, and #libadwaita, and it's my first real experience doing development for a GNOME app, so hopefully I did well!
megapixels 1.3 has entered @debian unstable, which means it will soonish trickle down into Mobian! #gtk4 for the win!
