Prize-winning Japanese language novelist Li Kotomi is suing Kofu city assembly rep Muramatsu Hiromi for outing her as transgender. Li, who's Taiwanese, changed her gender before arriving in Japan. She's suing for 5.5 million yen ($38K).
7-11 Japan announced it'll help fight high rice prices by selling rice from the government's strategic reserves in 2kg bags for 718 yen ($5). At 359 yen/kg, that's under the price of other retailers - and well under the market price of new rice, which is around 900 yen/kg.
A survey conducted this month by Mainichi Shimbun shows continued support for allowing Japan to once again have an empress. 70% polled favor allowing women to take the imperial throne. Only 6% oppose it.
