Feel like I really not updating a lot of my old project but today is the day I do!
finally updated my fork of imgs (A simple image sharing platform) imgp to support account, image management and API creation besides the original S3 storage modification
Anyone using #hetzner with a dedicated server should stop as soon as possible and migrate to a different #cloud provider. The reason? Your inbound traffic is being partially sent to other instances (you will be receiving other instances’ first connection packets), and your machine is not isolated at L2 level and is able to communicate with other ones (only ARP was tested)
A manifesto for #Public #Cloud #Services
After Donald Trump's tech bro takeover election it is clear regular people will stand to lose out with digital monopolies increasing their power, charging rent on everything we need to live our digital online lives, with our assets owned by them & our access suspect to deletion at any time, while enshittifying their services.
We need the digital equivalent of public roads, bridges and spaces!

I had a #nightmare where I pressed 'Allow' to have #AI upload all the data on my computer to the #cloud
Then I was just staring at my screen watching a spinning wheel and thinking I had no way to stop it.
I wrote a (messy) thing on our over reliance of US tech and how we can start to get some of our data back in European soil (or at least improve our data privacy)

#Cloud #hosting recommendation?
The world of cloud hosting is changing so rapidly. What I'd like is a provider where I could "one-click-install" a range of packages. For example, I'd like to try NextCloud or my own instance of PenPot. I realize not all services will provide a 1-click for EVERYTHING but I'd like one that has a robust set that would allow me to play. This does NOT need to be high performance, this is for personal exploration.
Alright, time for a fresh #introduction . My name is Rynn, I'm a network administrator by day, weird animal on the internet by night!
Here are some fast facts about me:
Moved from lycanmatriarch@tech.lgbt
#polyamorous - wielding dual partners
#asexual - grey, my horny cannot be quelled by mortals
#autistic / #adhd - Therapist was way more helpful than the Neuropyschologist
I've been doing IT for over a decade now and I regularly post about #linux #plex #cloud #infosec #zfs and other tech screaming. I also draw, make pokemon sprites from perler beads, and futz with #homeimprovement projects in my ~120 year old house.
I hope it is no surprise when I tell you that you don't have #privacy and #digitalsovereignty (and #security) if you do not have the right #motivation as well as the #knowledge and/or #money to act accordingly.
Therefore, most people are excluded here because of at least one reason.
In that sense, #postprivacy has arrived long time ago.

if you're building #FreeBSD #cloud images, and want the latest cloud-init package, here's my repository for FreeBSD 14.0 amd64 & aarch64: https://pkg.igalic.co/
They're not signed or anything, and should hopefully hit the official repos just a few days later, but it's a nice to have this bridge, especially for testing.
#FreeBSD #cloud project update for the last 2 weeks:
Update on what I've achieved in the past two weeks:
tested the new 24.1 release,
https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi
tested the rundir fix,
https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/pull/4820
once that's merged, I'll add it to the release patch
in doing so, created a set of scripts for creating a VM on AWS
https://codeberg.org/meena/test-cloud-init
(this should be converted to Terraform/OpenTofu)
fixed homedir bug
https://github.com/canonical/cloud-init/pull/5061
finished up the socket(9) skeleton for vsock:
https://codeberg.org/meena/freebsd-src/src/branch/vsock/sys/dev/virtio/socket/virtio_socket.c
(it passes about 0.5 tests so far;)
in doing so cleaned up hv_sock:
https://reviews.freebsd.org/D44517
got some good feedback

@spookius don't need our services yet? That's also cool. But you can subscribe to our newsletter! We'll be posting regular articles on the site and you can get them delivered straight into your inbox.
We'll be writing about various tools and their use and configuration, saving money on services, and tips and tricks we couldn't find elsewhere.
Then later you may discover you *do* need us, at which point we'll be easy to find. Win-win
@hexaheximal@blob.cat @esm @hexaheximal@wetdry.world Like #Atlassian & #Adobe & #Autofesk before them, #Microsoft is working hard to forcibly #Subscription-ize & #Cloud-ify (aka. #Enshittify) their products and subsequently cancel any #OneTimePurcase, #OnPremise / #SelfHosting and #LocalInstall options until there's only #Microsoft365 / #Office365 as a #WebApp with no control over anything whatsoever...
And OFC that'll be weaponized against anyone and everyone!
