Terri K O 🍁<p>CVE Binary Tool 3.3 is released! (At long last!)</p><p>This is my work open source project that lets you scan for known vulnerabilities in your binaries, package lists and SBOMs. It's meant to make it easier (and cheaper!) to make secure open source software.</p><p>3.3 has new features from our Google Summer of Code 2023 contributors including EPSS metrics to help users assess risks associated with vulnerabilities, a new GitHub Action to make scanning easier, and a mirror of the NVD data backed by the same servers that do Linux distro mirroring so you don't have to deal with rate limits, downtime, and servers only located in the US.</p><p>Release notes: <a href="https://github.com/intel/cve-bin-tool/releases/tag/v3.3" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">github.com/intel/cve-bin-tool/</span><span class="invisible">releases/tag/v3.3</span></a></p><p>And get the code on pypi:<br><a href="https://pypi.org/project/cve-bin-tool/3.3/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">pypi.org/project/cve-bin-tool/</span><span class="invisible">3.3/</span></a></p><p>Boosts appreciated!</p><p><a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/OpenSource" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>OpenSource</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/GSoC" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GSoC</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/hacktoberfest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hacktoberfest</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/infosec" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>infosec</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/security" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>security</span></a> <a href="https://social.afront.org/tags/Python" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Python</span></a></p>

olivia maia<p>this <a href="https://radical.town/tags/hacktoberfest" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>hacktoberfest</span></a> bad PR craziness might be bad for the open source community, but says a lot about the privilege of those with coding knowledge when they are shocked about loads of people doing anything for a free tshirt.</p>

But second, the ecosystem I use on a daily basis is mostly made up of projects that use GitLab, or BitBucket, or sr.ht, or Fossil, or sending patches by mail, or GNU Savannah, or (good grief!) even SourceForge.
