@stux@mstdn.social nano all the way, the only thing I've learned in vim is how to quit

@EpicKitty haha same here

:q
:quit!

:NOOOO

@stux @EpicKitty i use vim for simple config files, thats quite nice

@EpicKitty Yup! Or wiping the harddisk also works :akko_giggle:

@stux@mstdn.social Other: emacs. (You knew someone would say it sooner or later. 😆)

@manuelfeller haha nooo, i want to solve this age old battle first :blobcatgiggle:

@stux everybody knows the correct answer

@stux vim if it's something resembling a project. For just a poke, nano.

@stux

I'm team vim,

I used to use nano, but the Uni forced me to learn how to use Vim for basic file editing...

And I found it wasn't as bad as I thought initially, and found it more comfortable.
In either case - I don't really do anything advanced with what vim can do.

But I'm not gonna tout superiority of one editor to another that's silly.

@stux i don't care i don't use text editors in the first place

@stux Joe.
But really Notepad++ with ftp plugin

@stux in terms of preference 100% nano but there is always a non zero chance that you may need to putty/telnet/whatever into an ancient legacy machine that doesn't have nano or emacs that makes it worthwhile to know at least the basics of vi (i.e. enough to paste in something you edited in something easier to use on your local machine & save it)

@egeltje @stux These trolling polls are always funny. That being said, go with any text editor(s) that make(s) you efficient. Options in tools need to be entertain so you can built the perfect system for your needs/liking. Otherwise simply go with a close OS and you'll reach a consensus with the lack of choices ;)

@stux you're really going to annoy the emacs-o-sauruses with that poll

p.s. the only true answer is /(neo)?vim?/

@stux If you don't know how to do it, you'll do it worse with nano anyway. Period.

Gelukkig heb ik geen schoorsteen, dat scheelt weer.

@stux

nano, but aliased as pico due to muscle memory…

@stux I have opened a file in vim, tried to type into it, and failed. So I'd say the developers sadly failed to grasp what a text editor is supposed to do.

About nano I've only ever heard the very confusing combination of complaints that people are confused how to control it, and about how there is a bar at the bottom telling you how to control it at all time.

@stux
I'll have to go with @nano since IDK who vim even is!

@stux Nano - I love that „futuristic“ design compared to vim.
