Yay! The town of Holmdel, NJ now officially owns the former Bell Labs Crawford Hill site, home of the horn antenna where Penzias and Wilson found evidence of the Big Bang. It will be known as Robert Wilson Park. https://patch.com/new-jersey/redbank/holmdel-now-owns-crawford-hill-historic-horn-antenna
We just lost Arno, but Robert Wilson is still around to appreciate this (and he was, I understand, a central figure in moving this forward).
With Murray Hill being shuttered, Crawford Hill may end up being the only Bell Labs facility preserved for the future.
@mattblaze I thought that Bell Labs buildings just spontaneously appeared in rural NJ. Are you telling me that they have parents? With just one parent/building, does that mean they will go extinct now?
@mattblaze
Great news, thanks for sharing.
@mattblaze Wait, one of the guys who discovered the CMBR is ALSO the guy who wrote the Illuminatus trilogy? Suddenly everything makes a lot more sense.
@darthnull @mattblaze Different RW.
@jcmrva @mattblaze I know, was just making a bad joke. :)
ok, that's a good bad joke, once we know it's a joke.
