@GnuPG @todd_a_jacobs Using #LTFS to store #encrypteddata outside of hyper scaler environments without the dedicated #KMS components expensive tape libraries use to enable #LTO9 drives' built-in, hardware #AES256GCM support is an area the institute is evaluating, and thinking about how #GPG might fit in has been a facet of our research process.

All recent generations of #LTO drives support strong, on-the-fly, hardware-accelerated encryption on the drives themselves. Sadly, it's essentially useless in the standalone drives sold to individuals, the #SOHO market, or to other non-enterprise customers because of the high cost of the tape library hardware required to activate it.

In some ways, the situation is much like the early Intel 386 computers that shipped with missing or disabled math coprocessors even when it stopped being a cost issue. In part, that was a strategic market segmentation decision, and the institute currently believes the lack of accessible LTFS encryption for all encryption-capable drives is no different.

Even though #GnuPG is usually thought of as primarily an email tool, it's actually an important "Swiss Army knife" for a variety of #infosec use cases. It's also on a tragically short list of #OpenPGP and telatrd #cryptography tools that remains fully #opensource.

We're putting this topic on our agenda for further exploration and discussion. Meanwhile, these community conversations and the viewpoints of respected tool developers is an invaluable resource to everyone.

I made a #diy #electronics standalone #cryptography #cybersecurity device the ParanoiaBox. It is an experiment with a minimal attack surface as it is a #microcontroller, keyboard, television, with no operating system intended for #encryption and decryption of files between an insecure air-gapped computer and the internet. It uses AES256 and ECDH EC25519 public-key encryption to enable #secret #communications. Files are encrypted into text so they may be easily E-mailed or posted on forums.

I've done it! After literal months of work, I've finally finished my (rather long) blog post about how AES-GCM works and how it's security guarantees can be completely broken when a nonce is reused:

frereit.de/aes_gcm/

It includes more than 10 interactive widgets for you to try out AES-GCM, GHASH and the nonce reuse attack right in your browser! (Powered by #RustLang and #WASM )

If you're interested in #cryptography , #math (or #maths ) or #infosec you might find it interesting.

If you do read it, I'm all ears for feedback and criticism!

frereit's blog · AES-GCM and breaking it on nonce reuseIn this post, we will look at how the security of the AES-GCM mode of operation can be completely compromised when a nonce is reused.

Been here for several months now, so I guess it’s time update my #introduction post! The following is probably inaccurate!

I’m Alex, better know as Axman6 pretty much everywhere you can think of - IRC (libera.chat#haskell etc.), 🦤 site, probably LinkedIn and others too.

As far as jobs and hobbies are concerned, I’ve been a professional #Haskell developer for nearly a decade, with various roles in finance and #HFT (despite not really having much of an interest in finance…), in the public sector where I worked on much of the #RenewableEnergy parts of nationalmap.gov.au at #NICTA & #CSIRO, writing backend services in Haskell, doing lots of #geospatial data processing, #SQL, #DevOps and much more.

Previously writing #Daml, a dialect of Haskell, for a large financial system. Currently working for a Canberra based startup making scientific test and measurement equipment using #FPGAs, #python & #C.

if you’re in need of an experienced remote Haskell dev who loves to make things go fast, I’d love to have a chat.

Previously undertaking Masters in #cybersecurity at #UNSW but gave it up because of the lack of advanced content.

I’ve got a strong interest in #cryptography, #integrity, as well as #hacking things to see how they work, and love a good #CTF.

On the more personal side of things, I’m based in #Canberra, #australia. As you can see from my profile pic, I’m also a volunteer in the State Emergency Service - I guess you could say I like pin coladas, and talking walks in the rain… in a storm… on your roof… with a chainsaw⛈️

I try to collect false assumptions, misunderstandings and such and try to provide answers and corrections. The first part covers Schrödingers Cat, usage of quantum computers for large data set, the question of education and what programming languages are possible.

This is an excerpt from my repository github.com/gottfriedsz/falseho and pull requests are of course welcome.

#introduction

Hi all!

Software dev for ~12 years now. Worked on everything from global financial software to from-scratch AgTech IoT automation for irrigation management.

#ruby is my absolute favorite language, but also a big fan of #javascript and #rust. I am not a cryptographer, but I am interested in practical applications of #cryptography to build unique products.

Outside of code, I am a dad, I do a LOT of outdoor activity (kayaking, backpacking), and I really enjoy weightlifting!

Now that our instance has a higher size limit for toots, time for a re-#introduction. This time with more hashtags!

Hi! I'm Jeff. :blobcatwave:

I've been a software engineer since around 1999 I guess. I started with #WebDev back in the early days of applets, DHTML, and Flash. I've since moved on to #FullStack work on just about anything that has a compiler or an interpreter. I've even recently dabbled in #PCB design and #3DPrinting.

My software specialties are in high performance computing #HPC, #GPGPU, and #ComputationalChemistry. Although I usually enjoy any programming problem with a good challenge to it. I spent waaay too much time in school and got all the degrees in computer science. I still work in #academia part-time writing research software.

My favorite programming languages at the moment are #Rust and #Kotlin. Although, I've spent a lot of time writing #Javascript lately. With the right tooling it's not completely terrible.

More recently, I've been interested in online #privacy, #cryptography, and #SocialNetworks.
