The white lights on the right of the church are a group photographers in the wild. I found out that you can approach them and they are really friendly.

#Polarlichter in Warnemünde

From last night. Humboldt County, CA, about 40°8' north latitude, so much further south than the NOAA map suggested. Glad I went out! That's local landmark Bear Butte just right of center.

Shot with a Canon 8-15mm f4 at 15mm, ISO 8000, 8 seconds, RAW, then cropped in Lightroom. Adjusting the highlight slider (way down) brought out more of the color, but I didn't otherwise enhance the colors as the camera saw them.

The "rays" and some pinks and greens were very visible to the naked eye, so it was super fun to watch. The camera picked up much more color. This and any others I post were shot as timelapses, but they'll take more work to edit.

My photog friend has started processing the photos from her camera from our recent trip to Lofoten. I’m so happy she got to see and photograph such intense auroras. The Norwegian coast is notoriously overcast so those stars in the background truly aligned for her

Set up a #RaspberryPi-based #allsky camera on the backyard for a first test and, by chance, there was super strong #aurora with auroral corona (at zenith, overhead) early on Monday morning.

This gets to the very top of the pictures I've taken in Norway.

The slightly-off focus explains very well the excitement of the moment. A perfect aurora in one of my favourite places on Earth!
