@eff Last year, Republican Sen. Susan Collins supported a Maine electric company's proposal to report high electric bills to police to root out marijuana grow operations in homes. https://oldfriends.live/@paul/112924201084142278

An article pops up every now and then in Ohio. I remember reading recently about it.
A search led back more than a decade to this article:

Government-approved digital credentials (driver license, etc.) are becoming more commonly used online. The @w3c Digital Credentials #API enables websites to request credentials, and for users to consent to return credentials that they carry around in #DigitalWallets https://www.w3.org/TR/digital-credentials/

@simone explains how this API advances #privacy-preserving Web identities: https://www.w3.org/blog/2025/w3c-digital-credentials-api-publication-the-next-step-to-privacy-preserving-identities-on-the-web/ #gdc25

I have been testing the new 25.06 update for PostmarketOS on my OnePlus 6T and I must say the team has done an amazing work! Camera, GPS, Android apps and general system works well and is now, in my opinion daily driveable. Everything I personally wanted!
Thank you, @postmarketOS@treehouse.system!
Last April, @nataliabielova demonstrated that websites use various #tracking technologies to collect user data. Privacy regulations like the EU's #GDPR require user consent, but many use manipulative "dark patterns" in cookie banners. Technical standards, like those from @w3c, aim to improve #privacy, and solutions include a taxonomy of tracking purposes and standardized consent recording to enhance compliance and user control.

At the @w3c meeting in April 2025, co-chairs @torgo and @jyasskin gave an overview of @tag 's ongoing and new work. After the publication of two W3C statements -- the #ethical web principles and the #privacy guidelines --, the TAG is notably working on an "explainer explainer" and new findings, such as a finding on #AI. The group has also started a "TAG Associates program" to include external experts in their work.

Last April, @dontcallmeDOM stressed the need for the web community to address #AI's growing impact on the Web. Previous @w3c report highlighted challenges like synthetic content, bias, #security, #sustainability, and data consent. https://www.w3.org/reports/ai-web-impact/
Progress has been made with ML-based #APIs such as #WebNN and Prompt API. New concerns include AI agents, which pose risks to trust, #privacy, #safety, and the web economy.

Last April, @domenic reported that 7 AI LLM-based APIs are being developed in the @w3c web machine learning #CommunityGroup. https://webmachinelearning.github.io/incubations/
These APIs raise new #privacy and #security concerns and must keep pace with rapid #AI advances. As part of the #Chrome team, he suggests prioritizing high-level APIs, improving testing methods, and engaging ML experts in web standards to broaden AI accessibility for #developers.

Last week the @tag published the Privacy Principles as a W3C Statement. This document elaborates on the privacy principle from the Ethical Web Principles: "Security and privacy are essential."
Privacy is an essential part of the web. The document provides definitions for privacy and related concepts that are applicable worldwide as well as a set of privacy principles that should guide the development of the web as a trustworthy platform. #privacy

A bit late to the party, but... Happy 5th Anniversary to the Global Encryption Coalition (GEC)!
From 37 members in 2020 to a global network of 466 organizations across 108 countries today.
In 5 years, we've advocated for strong encryption in 93+ countries, protecting digital privacy worldwide.

Yes; exactly! So many people who should know better are not just ill-informed, but aggressively incurious about what is available.
I was recently told that there is *no way* to collaborate on a document that is not #privacy invasive, with the added smug fillip "sometimes, you just have to live in the world."
The occasion for this insight was a call for signatures to an open letter to the Trump Administration calling for better privacy protections---using Google docs. :)
The W3C @tag has published the Privacy Principles as a W3C Statement. Privacy is an essential part of the web.
This document provides definitions for privacy and related concepts that are applicable worldwide as well as a set of privacy principles that should guide the development of the web as a trustworthy platform.
People using the web would benefit from a stronger relationship between technology and policy, and this document is written to work with both. #privacy
